Many designers practice bad habits that is carried on from project to project.

The first step in improving your skills is retraining your eye to focus on things that you may not have been focusing on before. Proper color combinations, proper spacing, proper typography choices, textures, iconography, consistency, etc. All these things make up a solid visual design and shadowing top designers on Dribbble.com can help you learn to focus on these important areas. Take a look at the video and let me know what you think about this technique.

Hi thanks for the tips. Is it better to create an account as a scout or as a prospect in Dribble?. Do i need a tablet like bamboo or wacom to take the designs to a next level?

@Oliver – Thanks for the feedback. Yes, this is a great way to boost your skill level up a notch.

@Madere – It all depends. Personally, I’m not active or have no plans to be active on Dribbble, so I just have a scout account that I can use for following designers as a tool of inspiration. I just use it for inspiration, but if you wish to be active posting things there, you can sign up for an account. I believe you need to get an invite from another designer. Not really sure how it all works exactly. But I know its a great tool for following and studying designs from others.
