Beautiful Design Execution and Interaction Using Large Photos
September 25th, 2011 by Mike Locke  |  5 Comments »

Here is a site that demonstrates beautiful design execution and interaction using large hi-res photos. The Pella 350 Series microsite is a good example of effectively selling a product by using beautiful hi-res photos and videos together with a clean simple interactive interface. This is another reason why I think you shouldn’t build all your websites on the wordpress framework, because doing so limits creativity like this while restricting you to the standard wordpress 2-column layout. This site is a great example of thinking outside the normal website structure.

    Hi Michael,

What exactly do you mean with: “restricting you to the standard wordpress 2-column layout” ?

Is it not possible in WP to have more than 2 columns?

@Leon – I would say that 99% of all wordpress websites that I see have a similar look-n-feel using a 2-column layout. It is possible to have more or less columns using wordpress but in my opinion, using wordpress restricts you because it’s too easy to conform to their archived 2-column layout. My point in saying this is not to say never use wordpress, not at all. In a lot of cases a 2-column wordpress layout is fine. I’m saying don’t make it your default template. Stay open to other layout options if possible. ;)

    Hi Michael,

Thank you so much again for the content you are putting out constantly. Really helped me grow in webdesign and UI. Was just wondering would you consider doing some training lessons on how to build and design websites, we would be happy to pay because its worth it.
    Thanks

Hi Mike, it is possible now to build any layout in WordPress, I’m not sure if this was the case at the time of this article being published, anyway, love your blog, been learning and reading it for about a year now, great stuff and keep em coming
